When real life spills across into your writing

It's funny the twists and turns life takes. If you had told me this time last year what my life would be like now, I would have told you that you were crazy. I have completely changed careers, dyed my hair blonde, and now red, moved in with my boyfriend, bought a new cat, returned to Uni...phew!

This has got me thinking - life can change so quickly, and so unexpectedly at that. I never planned the changes that I have made in my life (I rarely think ahead more than a few days at a time), and yet these changes are very real and very huge...for me, that is.

Without meaning to, these life changes I have made are coming across in my writing. I personally am more relaxed and viewing life with a fresh perspective. Likewise, the characters I have written about lately tend to carelessly let life sweep them along. They are also much happier with their lives than they were a handful of months ago.

I think my writing is all the better for my calmer outlook, and I am able to immerse myself in my make-believe word with an ease that is almost frightening. Fingers crossed this keeps happening!

Now to go back to the Children's story I wrote 6 months ago and edit it with my fresh ideas.
