More About Serra Rose:

How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?

It depends on how much inspiration is flowing. I once wrote the first draft of a book in eleven days and published it in seven months.

Editing rounds and alpha/beta readers can be affected by how long it takes the readers to read. My team are usually pretty fast, so the editing process usually takes around 2+ months.

*

What is your favourite type of character to write?

The morally grey. I tried to write a golden retriever and that did not work out. I guess I just dont have the mind for that kind of character.

*

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?

I don't really get writers block much, but when I do, I need to remove myself from my creative space to reset my brain. Go for a walk. Have a coffee. Go to the movies. When I stop thinking so hard about my writing, inspiration flows again.

*

What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your writing career?

The process. I was stuck in the self editing cycle for ages, because I didn't know where to go next in the publishing process (editors, beta readers etc).

*

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?

I just go with the flow of inspiration. I've found the genre I like to write, and know the kinds of characters that fall naturally into that genre.

*

What is your favourite writing resource?

Fellow authors!

*

What's next for your writing?

I have started on a why chose with vampires for my Bloodsong Series. I'm really excited to write this, and I love the characters so much.
